My students are an energetic group of Spanish-dominant and English-dominant students that spend half of the day learning in Spanish and half of the day learning in English.
Students come from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds!
We are in a school that has two different learning strands: Dual Language Immersion and English only instruction. We serve a very diverse population with over 60 percent of students living in poverty; almost all of the students in my class make up part of that 60 percent. We are also unique in that minority cultures make up the majority of our school population.
My students need 5 texts of El Color de mis palabras to begin their guided reading groups. This text is accessible to multiple reading group levels and will be used with most students.
Additional texts will be used enrich our targeted instruction around the benefits of bilingualism and being bicultural, a major part of the DLI programs goal.
The binders and binder tabs will be used to organize each of our six- six week biliteracy units. Students will have easy access to shared reading texts, grammar focus work, and writing that is all tied to the theme of each unit.
