Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade teacher in an urban, K-5 public school that has the majority of its students coming from low-income families. Most of the students also speak English as their Second Language.
My students face many difficult challenges inside and outside of the classroom.
Despite the challenges they face, my students are always eager to get to school everyday and learn something new! Our classroom is a warm and nurturing learning environment for the exploration of knowledge and self!
My Project
Magnetic tens frames will provide students with a hands-on manipulative to enhance their knowledge of the concept of ten. Magnetic letters will be used to build and manipulate words while learning about different word patterns. Magnetic place value blocks will provide the students with a hands-on manipulative to develop their knowledge of base ten. Reading comprehension prompts will deepen my students understanding of the books they are reading during whole group reading time and/or small group guided reading time. Having resources that are multi-sensory helps learners of all needs to gain a deeper understanding of concepts being taught.All the resources requested are to further develop my students skills in mathematics concepts and literacy skills.
