Guess What Jar Prizes

Help me give my students positive reinforcement for good behaviors in my classroom. I will use these snacks and candy to curb negative behaviors by offering prizes to extraordinarily wonderful behaviors and actions in class.

My Project

I have a wonderful group of sixth and seventh-grade students this year for my Theatre Arts I classes. I would like to provide rewards for students who behave extraordinarily well in class. Last semester I introduced a reward system called, "Guess What". In this behavioral management system, students who go above and beyond in the classroom, helping others without being asked, offering encouragement, focusing 110-percent on your work even when others are not, and contributing to the learning of everyone in the classroom are all examples of things that a student may do to earn a "Guess What" ticket. These tickets are used to potentially earn a grand prize!

Rather than focusing on the negatives, I would like to highlight the positives.

The students use those tickets to guess the amount of a prize item in a jar. The student who gets the closest to guessing without going over wins the entire contents of the jar. The tickets are accounted for at the end of every grading period - about every three weeks. I would like to implement a variety of prizes and have prizes for students to be given for review trivia relays in class. The Spring semester can lead to spring fever, especially after Spring break and state testing, which can lead to unnecessary behaviors in school.
