Guardians of the Body: The Immune System Strikes Back

My Project

This project provides my students with a fun and engaging game (Virulence) and hands-on kit (Science Take-Out) with refills so all students can participate.

Engaging students in fun and hands-on learning is the best way for my students to attain and retain key concepts.

Using the Science Take-Out sets, students will create models of pathogens, antibodies, and antigen-antibody interaction and perform simulated laboratory tests to compare the antibody levels of unvaccinated and vaccinated children who have been exposed to the bacteria that cause pertussis. With the Virulence card game, students will learn about the virus structure and viral components like helical, icosahedral, and genomes. Both of these sets comply with STEM and NGSS standards.
