My Students
My students come from a culturally and ethnically diverse borough of NYC, Queens. My school is identified as a Title 1 school, and more than half of the student population qualify for free or reduced school lunch. Their families' economic status is primarily low income. In some instances, some of my students provide economic contribution to their family's household or are raised by single parents. My students are passionate, enthusiastic, and bright in many areas; however, they lack access to essential tools to cater to their talents.
My Project
My students with special needs come to my room either before or after school, or during their lunch periods to utilize extra time to finish an exam or essay. Having access to snacks to boost their energy and confidence level would influence their esteem in school. Some of these snacks would include goldfish crackers, granola bars, fruit snacks and miniature water bottles. These snacks should be sufficient enough to keep students' energy going throughout the school day.
The donations would go directly to providing nutritious snacks and water for students to munch on while receiving additional help or tutoring.
It would aid in creating a positive and nurturing environment for my students.
