Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is ranked as a high-poverty school with 99% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Most of our kids come from single-parent or severely dysfunctional homes. Keeping students excited about staying active is very challenging given their difficult home lives. Moreover, it is more difficult due to the lack of equipment for our students on our campus.
We offer sports such as flag football, soccer, basketball, softball.
The problem is that we never have the equipment. Kids normally have to share them or go without the use of proper equipment.
My Project
Due to the pandemic, my athletes have become less engaged with sports and training. We are having a severe lack of turnout for our teams. If we are unable to field enough students for our teams, we are in jeopardy of losing the little funding we get for sports programs. This funding pays for equipment, uniforms, officials, and transportation. We are hoping with these resources we can get the students engaged again in sports and excited about watching their personal growth and development.
