Growing While Growing!

Help me give my students the opportunity to learn how to grow and care for plants. These items will help my students learn the basics of growing cycle and connect it to their everyday lives.

My Project

Our class is a special education class for students diagnosed with severe-profound disabilities. Every year we create a garden and learn about the growing cycle. We learn about the responsibility it takes to care for a living thing and how we can apply that to the rest of our lives.

Last year our school was remodeled and during the construction, our previous garden kit was destroyed.

The garden kit allowed us to practice essential life and leisure skills. Many of my students have never had the responsibility or joy of nurturing another living thing. They love to watch the plants grow and love to care for them. Every year we grow something you can see (brightly colored), smell (a fragrant herb), and eat (a vegetable). We give the brightly colored flowers away for Mother's Day, enjoy the scent of the fragrant herb, and use the vegetable in our weekly life skills and cooking lessons.
