Help me give my students tools to develop expression of their creative social-emotional selves. Art is not only therapeutic, but also has been proven to increase a student's proficiency and achievement in all core studies.

My Project
My students spend their time swimming, surfing, and being in the sun. It sounds like an idyllic life, but our school by the sea needs something to bring these diverse students together and create cohesion and integration as a student body whereas the children now often self-segregate during playtimes. In middle school, students don't have the chance to play together like they do now. Play is an important tool in bringing children together and this opportunity must be capitalized on before it is too late. Students are excited to be back in school learning and even though they have all experienced some form of learning loss throughout the pandemic, their spirits still shine as bright as before.
As a class we will use these art supplies and technology activities to replace the STEAM that was previously offered by the school (and has been cancelled due to the pandemic) with classroom art and STEAM activities that will focus on literature connections, self-actualization, and campus beautification.
COVID-19 has impacted learning for my students by depriving them of their social interaction during their formative years The requested resources directly relate to helping students to continue their social-emotional learning in light of COVID-19. Even though our students were provided with academic services during the pandemic and our 6th-grade team worked hard to make things as engaging as possible, the emotional toll of years of missed social interactions is showing in our students. The thing the students missed the most was doing things with their friends. Art provides a medium where all can be successful and socialize while learning and hands-on learning can make complex science concepts accessible to the students.
