My Students
I am an elementary school counselor at a public school In Brooklyn, NY. I work with students across all grades K-5. My students are in school not only to learn academics but also to how to be resilient, empathetic, compassionate and inclusive people who feel comfortable in their skin and feel good about standing up for what they believe in. My students are also learning how to identify and manage their emotions. My overarching goal is to help students feel safe and comfortable being who they are.
My Project
We are about to begin a very different sort of school year. Students will be starting the year either doing hybrid or fully remote learning. There is so much going on in the world that is unknown and can be very scary for children. Now more than ever we need to teach our children to be strong, empathetic and resilient. The books I ordered will help me counsel my students and show them wonderful examples of celebrating differences, promoting inclusivity, empathy and bravery. These books will help spark rich discussions and allow my students to grow and learn.
