My Students
Our students are creative, spirited, and eager to learn about the world around them. Our students are some of the kindest and caring individuals I have ever met. They consistently show empathy and the desire to learn on a daily basis. They come from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. Our school is a Title I, K1-5 turnaround school in Dorchester, MA. In an effort to close the opportunity gap and increase academic achievement, our students’ goal is to make 1.5 years of reading growth. Our students are voracious readers who deserve the opportunity to have access to many books that interest them.
As a school, we believe the importance of strong reading skills cannot be stressed enough.
Consequently, strong reading skills are essential to improving academic outcomes and pushing students toward college and career readiness.
My Project
At our school, we carry the conviction that the most efficient and significant reading growth occurs when students love what they are reading. Guided reading instruction provides targeted attention to students at their reading level. Our Bookroom lacks a variety of guided reading material in the level L-Y range. Your donation will strengthen our Bookroom library by providing books more representative of diverse student cultural backgrounds, interests, and reading levels.
High-quality guided reading materials will help get all students reading on or above grade level.
High quality reading instruction requires high quality texts. Our students deserve and need these materials to unlock their literacy potential. With your support, we will have the appropriate leveled texts necessary to provide effective individualized instruction to best meet the needs of our students.
