My Students

There are about 300 students in grades PreK to 5 at our learning center. Most of the students come from low-income households but all of them share one common factor… they are all eager to learn! Of these 300 students, I work with approximately 35 students who are receiving mandated speech/language therapy services with a variety of classifications, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, Speech and Language Impairment, Learning Disabilities, Emotional Disturbance, and other health impairments.

Each of my students thrives when provided with multi-sensory instruction catered to his or her unique abilities.

My students are motivated to improve their communication skills in speech and language therapy. They maintained high spirits during remote and hybrid learning related to COVID-19 and attended tele-therapy sessions with smiles and high hopes!

My Project

My students have each been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic; however, they continue to make great strides with their speech-language goals! The materials will assist my students with growing their speech and language skills using age-appropriate manipulatives and interactive hands-on materials. The preschool and Kindergarterns have been extremely eager to explore and learn in the therapy room. These materials will broaden their play and imagination skills as they build their schemas and language through meaningful interactions in play. The older elementary school students will grow their speech and language skills as they are provided with sensory tools to aid their focus and learning through manipulative and engaging activities. Each of the students will also benefit from using sensory materials, such as seat cushions, to assist with overall focus and attention.
