Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to help my students stay motivated and have fun learning.
My students enjoy coming to school each day.
They love learning and researching new things. They just need the tools that will help them achieve these goals. Our students range from visual to tactile learners. They work best with color coded charts showing them each step of the way.
My Project
These materials will help the students in our 2nd Grade class grow as independent readers. Coming into 2nd Grade we have many students who have varying reading levels, and need differentiated support during guided reading.
Guided reading is a time during the school day where students get individualized support in reading, and learn strategies and skills to grow as readers.
In order to do this, a classroom needs books that correspond to the different reading levels of the students in the classroom. These leveled book sets will help grow our classroom library so that each student can easily find books that are on their correct level.
The book totes will help each student organize the independent books that they are currently reading, and will help them feel ownership of their own learning. This will in turn help them grow and thrive as readers.
