My students need planting materials to help them learn about the importance of plants, while growing their own healthy snacks.

My Students
I am a teacher in an urban community. My students live in apartments or houses that do not have yards or areas to plant. Many of them have never had the opportunity to garden and see how plants grow and change.
The benefits from this rich sensory experience will be immeasurable.
Many of the students bring in chips and cookies for snack. Students have made many comments about the healthy snacks and lunches I have brought in. "Wow, Mrs. M, I never knew there were so many different types of salads." I realized that they need to see that there are so many healthy choices out there. What better way to teach them, then to have them grow their own healthy snacks.
Providing students with this hands-on learning experience will teach them about plants and healthy choices. They will be able to improve their knowledge and awareness of healthy eating habits.
My Project
I am requesting seeds, journals, and planting materials so my students can experience planting, while learning the importance of healthy eating. I want my students to have a hands-on experience, that will motivate them to explore healthy snacks. It will also provide them with the knowledge of what living things need to grow and thrive.
This project will provide my students with an opportunity to observe how seeds sprout, how plants grow, and how soil, water, and sunshine interact.
My students will have an opportunity to learn about nature and communicate their observations.
I am so lucky to be able to watch my students learn and to see the look on their faces when they accomplish a task.
