Agriculture Education classrooms/labs are very hands-on. Allowing students to really focus on all parts of the FFA motto, "Learning to do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve."
There is very few better ways for my students to learn than by doing and that is what we do everyday.
The Kindergarten-12th grade school district where my students learn and grow everyday is small but enthusiastic.
Students know the value of hard work and that if they set their minds to any goal they can achieve it. Our community supports the school in many ways and is always willing to lend a helping hand.
My Project
I am requesting Professional Jiffy greenhouses and corn, sunflower and lima bean seeds. Students will grow their starter plants to plant in their new raised garden beds. The raised garden beds were constructed and installed by the classes. When the plants mature the students will harvest the produce to share with other students in the school cafeteria. This project will show students that it does not take large amounts of space to produce large quantities of food. Students will also learn responsibility and patience. Gardens are labor intensive and require monitoring to ensure the produce it picked at the prime time.
I believe that every person show know the basics of where and how food can be produced.
Students will also learn about germination, soil nutrients, plant diseases, and pest management. Students will gain appreciation for the food they consume because they will know how much energy goes into growing a crop.
