Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a Title I school that has a high English Language Learner population. Most of the students get free lunch. Many of my students have told me that they live with other families in one small apartment. The children do not get their own space for themselves and their things in this type of environment. The children in my school have parents that work two jobs, which means they are not always home helping them with school work or just spending time with them.

The children are very loving and enjoy the routine of being in school.

They enjoy working with other children and learning from them. Even though their home lives may be challenging, the children come to school every day ready to learn.

My Project

Stem is a huge focus in schools and I picked the Marble Run and Magic Connectors to help the children begin learning how to build things and figure out how to build things in different ways. The math number locks will give the class a fun way to match dots to numbers and get them ready for kindergarten and first grade. There are children that need a little help to sit still and the wobble cushions will do just this. The child will be able to sit on the floor, yet they will be able to wiggle in a safe way that won't hurt the children around them. They can wiggle while sitting.
