I teach 40 hardworking, silly, and amazing second grade students in a small East Texas town. This is my third year teaching and I am a member of ATPE. I love what I do! My students love to work with hands-on activities, make creative art projects, and play games. They do not respond as positively to worksheets or seatwork activities as they do to physically manipulating the words, letters, or manipulatives. My students love to work in centers or sing songs to learn new concepts. I strive to make my classroom a fun, safe, and exciting learning environment.
My Project
These books will help expand our classroom library so that everyone in my classroom has a book that peaks their interest. By having books that my students generally enjoy, they will want to read more. These books will help my students grow to become better readers.
Many of my students are right on the edge of being on level in reading so by having more books in my classroom library they will be able to improve on their reading skills.
We do independent reading every day for at least 20 minutes so these kiddos need more books that they can choose from that are engaging and at their level.
