My Project
I have roughly 18 months left until the completion of my doctoral program. To say that it has been a journey is an understatement. As an action researcher, I enjoy being able to interact with students utilizing resources and evidence-based strategies designed to produce reading acquisition growth. While my program focuses on Educational Leadership and Policy, there is a concentration on Early Literacy Intervention. This allows me to assist teachers with maximizing learning opportunities for all learners in the building.
Currently, I am working on my Problem of Practice, also known as my dissertation.
I would like to research and develop an equitable plan for students of color, and with disabilities, to be successful in inclusion spaces. However, before the plan is established, it is important to discover what has been written, and the research that has been conducted, on the topic. Additionally, it is important to be able to understand the various methods of research and methodology that needs to be uncovered.
There are several resources that will be of immediate use upon receiving. I am interesting in qualitative research and examining stories from the voices of teachers and students. I am concerned about the overrepresentation of student of color in special education. To gain better insight, DisCrit Disability Studies and CRT in Education as well as the Sociocultural Theories of Learning and Motivation will be used. Additional books to assist with anti-racism practice include Pedagogy of the Oppressed and We Want To Do More Than Survive.
While the idea of conducting research can be daunting for some, I am finding joy in being able to take on a topic that I am passionate about in education. I hope that you will be able to see the benefits of my project!
