We are a suburban school outside a city in Pennsylvania. Our students are rather diverse and come from many different backgrounds. Half of our students receive free and reduced lunch and/or come from single parent homes.
We have over 500 students in our school, ranging from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
They are a very special population of students and have many wonderful stories to tell. They are the generation of tomorrow, and need to have meaningful experiences to help them grow into the individuals they were meant to become.
This year we are moving towards a reading and writing workshop model in our classrooms. Great teachers know that helping a student find a favorite book can kick start a lifelong love of reading. I'd like to expand my classroom library to give my students more choices for independent reading!
Mindsets play a crucial role in our success. Students need to understand that skills and abilities are grown and developed! They also need to understand that they are in control of their abilities. Mindsets have a major influence on a person's ability to learn.
I would like to help my students become better learners, become more persistent, and more intelligent and resilient overall!
Growth mindset creates a solid foundation in learning and I intend to teach students how to transition from having a fixed mindset to having a growth mindset. By funding this project, students will be provided with books such as: "Your Fantastic Elastic Brain: Stretch It, Shape It" and "The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes" will help teach them about how to build a growth mindset!
