Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a community faced with high poverty and socioeconomic difficulties, my students are faced with a variety of challenges each day both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges, my students are curious and filled with imagination, open hearts, and minds. Our school is Title I, which supports free breakfast and lunch provided to students at the school. I must make their school experience meaningful.
I aim to provide my students with creative and positive learning experiences that will foster their curiosity.
It is my job as an educator to allow their curiosity to expand and their skills to develop and grow while keeping them inspired to learn.
My Project
My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy going to. The books I have selected help me promote diverse literature, which is important in my classroom. Many of my students come from different backgrounds and I do my best to keep in mind all my students when choosing books. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word. The portable laptop tables will allow my students to read around my classroom instead of their desks.
