My students need an Aerogarden hydroponic plant growing system and seed starter so we can explore what may be the predominant way produce is grown for our growing populations.

My Students
Here in our corner of West Virginia, my fifth graders struggle with learning disabilities in reading, language and math. While school can prove challenging for these students, many also struggle with families coping with poverty, addiction and illness. I consider it a real privilege to be allowed into their lives and they certainly live in my heart.
At school, we work on improving skills specific to each student.
They are courageous in tackling learning phonics, vocabulary, computation skills, and I love to see their joy when they realize they have mastered a new concept!
My Project
My students come from all kinds of backgrounds and many of them do not have much access to fresh produce. They also do not have insight into how food is grown and effective ways to produce food for an ever increasing population.
I would like to incorporate a hands-on hydroponic project into my special education reading, math and science curriculum.
The students would study how to grow vegetables of their choice and would each get to plant and manage their seedling and eventually take it home.
The Aerogarden system and seed growing kit would allow for up to 50 seedlings to be planted at a time. This resource could be used over and over again not just this year, but in years to come.
