This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school where 100 percent of my students receive a free lunch. Many of my students do not have the best home life, yet they come to school with a positive attitude, hoping to learn and create a better future for themselves.

I teach at a career center where students learn better kinesthetically, so I’d like to be able to engage them with more labs rather than worksheets.

They are hard workers and deserve every opportunity for success.

My Project

My students, along with the special education students, will be growing fresh vegetables using different methods of gardening. They will be using this stand to grow plants using the traditional soil and water method. Students will harvest our crop and then use some of the vegetables to learn how to cook healthy meals while the rest will be sold at our corner market. They will learn about financial literacy in the process. They will have to look at the overhead and compare it to the profits and determine if the margins are where they need to be. If not they will have to think of ways to increase our profit margin. All profits will be used to continue to run out corner market.
