My Students

Imagine a classroom where students are freely and confidently experiencing the world around them through literature, technology, project-based learning and real world applications. This is the classroom you will discover when walking into my classroom filled with an amazing group of students.

I have a wonderful group of 28 second graders who are full of curiosity and a love for learning.

In our classroom we are respectful and supportive to one another. My students often willingly take the lead of the classroom with teachable moments, sharing experiences, and asking and exploring questions. We are a family and we care about our classroom's learning and growth. Our school is located on the south side of Chicago, one block away from President Obama's house. Contrary from the rich, historic Hyde Park neighborhood that surrounds our school, the majority of my students come from low income families. Our school strives to give our students a well-rounded, quality education with our school's vision that every child can learn with high expectations, a safe, loving environment, and creative instruction that sparks critical thinking skills and real-world application.

My Project

I have the amazing opportunity to be a part of a STEM fellowship for the up-coming school year. I have crafted well-planned units to help bring STEM initiatives to life in my classroom. Unfortunately, many of these initiatives could stop short due to the lack of resources available at my school. The 2 iPads with protective cases and digital cameras would be a great addition to our learning. Some Unit Project Examples: Students become meteorologists by creating a weather report with vocabulary learned using a digital map software on the iPads donated. Students will be recorded on the cameras presenting their news cast and a class video will be created. Also, students will research an animal of their choice. They will design a captivity space using digital graphing software on the iPads donated while taking into consideration their animal's needs that they researched. Students will use the digital cameras donated on our zoo field trip to take shots of their animal's actual captivity space during a comparison activity.

I am looking to enhance my student's learning in an innovative way through the iPads and digital cameras donated.

I want my students to apply what they are learning to their everyday lives. Learning cannot be constrained within the classroom walls. I plan to use the iPads and digital cameras within units that give my students the opportunity to explore new technologies, create projects that demonstrate content understanding, and give them the ability to share their work with so much pride.
