My Students
My school is full of unique and creative students who make me excited to be their teacher. 95% of students are low-income, 33% of students speak limited English, and 22% of students are diverse learners. I am excited to grow professionally to enhance their academic successes.
I am proud to say that I am a first year teacher and a career changer.
My first job was in special recreation and I have had several jobs since then but am very excited to begin my career working with special education students in inclusive classrooms through an alternate licensing program. My undergraduate degree is in Theatre and Creative Writing with a Spanish minor. I am planning on pursuing a Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. With many of my special education students also learning English as their second language, I am working hard to meet their needs. I am looking to grow in differentiating their instruction through the core classes of Mathematics and English Language Arts where I am a co-teacher. My students are very important to me and I desire to be the best teacher possible as I push them to grow and perform at grade level.
My Project
I encourage my students to always keep reading and to learn everything they can. I am hungry for more professional resources so am requesting books that will improve my practice in differentiating Mathematics and English Language instruction to my diverse learners and English Language Learners. As a co-teacher, I am excited to learn more best practices from others.
This project also includes a book binding machine that is for teacher use only. I will be able to pull together materials from successful units or from students' portfolios into an organized way that prevents me from needing to use dozens of binders. I am a first year teacher who wants to help her students succeed with research based scaffolded instruction and these books and materials will help me grow into the middle school teacher these students so urgently need.
This project will help me grow as a first year co-teacher of diverse learners in an inclusive classroom.
Books on differentiation for math, reading and writing geared towards middle school teachers will provide me with the materials and ideas I need to continue to my growth as a teacher so I can help my students achieve new heights.
