Growing Greens Inside Our Classroom With Hydroponic Gardening!

Help me give my students a Farmstand hydroponic garden, 24 seedlings to plant and preventative sprays.

My Students

I am a first-grade teacher in a wonderful school in Wisconsin. My students are very special, and I just love going to school every day to see the sparkle in their little 5- to 8-year-old eyes. I also get to connect with students of various ages during and after school. I truly have the most special job in the world and treasure every day with my students! My students love to read, pretend, and imagine. They are curious and love to learn! We participate in, and they love so many fun activities throughout the year, and our hope is to add even more. My students are amazing!

My Project

My students are going to be super excited about growing green vegetables right in our classroom using the Farmstand hydroponic gardening system! We will grow different types of lettuce, broccoli, flowers, swiss chard and other goodies, and there should be plenty for us to sample and eat! This garden is recommended by Oprah and by other hydroponic plant growers. And, I even got to tour the Epcot Hydroponic System at Disneyworld to get some great ideas about how to share this with my students! We will be able to do science, health, math and make literacy connections integrating all of our subjects using this garden!

I want to show my student students just how exciting it can be to grow and eat your very own veggies hydroponically, and this will happen right before their very eyes!

We are requesting the Farmstand 24-plant hydroponic plant stand. We are also requesting 24 plant seedlings, a dolly so that we can move the stand around and turn it, and some safe preventative sprays. The students will get to plant the seedlings and watch them grow right in their classroom! Then they will get to harvest the plants and eat them. The plants will just keep on growing and producing after harvest, so we should have green treats to eat all year long! I'm hoping that the harvests will be large enough that they even get to take some of the greens home to share with their families!
