This project is not just about growing plants to help our environment in the city, but, also to teach my kids to be kind and nourish something. The hope is that students not only learn about the process of gardening, but, we as middle schoolers can do this jointly with our Special Ed students. This will highlight both science and mathematics as well as learning to work with other students they don’t normally get to interact much with in our classroom.
We will attempt to grow a variety of plants from seeds using plants, seeds and starter pots which we will transfer to larger pots to take home.
The students will learn how to begin seeds, proper care of seedlings, and how to transfer them without injuring the plant. If we are successful, I hope to make this a quarterly collaboration with our special education department.
My class will do all the research to grow these plants successfully and how they impact our environment. Then I will send some home and send the rest to fill our garden on the rooftop.
