Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year a new list of Sunshine State Young Reader books is published. These titles are nominated by educators as being a "must-read" book for elementary students. We promote these titles as part of our Independent and Classroom reading programs.

Students read the titles on the list throughout the school year earning recognition and small rewards along the way.

In April, the supervisor of elections is invited into the school with the official voting machines and ballots. Students who have successfully read three or more of the titles, either independently or as part of their class, get to participate in the voting day and can vote for their favorite title of the year. The votes are then sent to the state and tallied to choose an official Sunshine State Young Reader Award winner for 2023-24.

These books will expose students to a variety of quality literature and hopefully encourage them to read more in their favorite genre.
