The items I’m requesting will help our students upgrade our garden so we can start growing food again. This will not only be used by my classes, but by other teacher’s classes and the garden club. In all, once up and running with materials such as hoses, soil, and gloves all stored in a new shed, this will benefit students for years to come. This will not only teach hard work but also empathy and generosity.
Our goal is to grow healthy, organic vegetables and fruits to distribute in our community pantry food boxes.
We’ll be able to contribute potatoes, carrots, squash, broccoli, and other vegetables for Thanksgiving and other holidays, long weekends, and vacation time food boxes. We also have an apple tree for pies and a grapevine. We give food to our families for holidays and have used the garden to supplement that, but it’s currently unusable and needs to be revived.
My students, and those of other teachers in my school, are special in many ways. In this case, they are special in their want to contribute to their very own community. They have really embraced the idea of giving to others and doing hard work to do so. They’re excited to try the fruits of their labor but they’re even more excited to donate it to others. I know this will enrich their lives and teach them the value of volunteering.
