Growing Figs For Our Community

Help me give my students the chance to learn how to grow plants and fig trees in particular from cuttings and grafts.

My Project

We have gotten fig trees donated from around the country. These plants are extra interesting because they can be planted as seeds, grown from cuttings and grafted. These plants grow fast just like kids do.

We plan to have the figs grow with the students and after four years, the figs will be taller than the students.

When a kid leaves the school they can take their plant with them or give it as a gift. The students can also gift fruit and cuttings to others after the first years growth.

We are also teaching them about community and outreach. Some of our local businesses and older people need a bit of help and we provide that. We learn about the invasive bugs and diseases like Black Fig Fly and Mosaic virus.
