This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are looking for an avenue to pursue their musical interests and cultivate their talents in a performance ensemble. Each day they come excited to learn and perform music together. I get to see their passion for music and it strengthens my desire to impact their musical growth.
My band program is growing!
Last year's enrollment was just about 50 students and through the exciting things we were able to do last year, we are now over 70! With this growth comes a need for more instruments.
My students come from all economic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. I truly love to teach music because it is a universal language and I have a universal group of students! The band works hard, has fun and knows how to work together to accomplish and perform something greater than what they could do on their own. It is truly a supportive and family atmosphere.
My Project
My students will be able to stop borrowing older and lesser quality instruments from friends and family by getting this requested flute. Our flute section works only because of the flexibility of some of my students who have access to extra flutes or old flutes at home. Instead of being able to borrow from the school inventory we have had to resort to loaning instruments from families within the band. It is not ideal.
With the flute, my students will be able to be actively involved in the performance activity of marching band and concert band at our school. We will not have to worry about borrowing from each other. The school will be able to provide the flutes necessary.
My students will be able to learn more effectively how to play their instruments and how to play and perform as a team. Being a part of the band teaches them life skills in team work, goal setting, problem solving, artistic creativity, self-confidence, and more.
This donation will have a direct impact in the amount of students who will be able to actively participate in the classroom process.
Many students cannot afford their own instruments and must be provided them by the school. Our program has grown a lot in one year and now we are out of instruments to provide. This will help put a new, quality flute in the hands of one more student.
