This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

If I've learned one thing as a science teacher it's that students love to grow plants. Every year, without fail, it is one of the most popular things we do, with students eagerly checking their seeds each day to see if they've grown.

This year, we have begun growing California native plants from seed and are hoping to expand our growing space so we can grow even more plants.

With the wire shelving units, we will be able to greatly expand our propogation space by setting them up and using them to hold seedling trays. Your donation will also provide us with more mini seed trays so we can begin growing more varities of California native plants.

In addition, the organza bags you donate will be used to collect seeds from the milkweed plants we have planted in our garden area. Students will tie them over the developing seed pods to catch the seeds when the pods burst open. After cleaning the seeds, we will be able to propogate them.

Aside from learning about how to propagate plants, this project will also help build both community and a love of science on our campus by creating a space for students to explore the wonderful world of gardening together.
