Growing a Love for Science With California Native Plants
Help me give my students gloves and kneeling pads so we can continue our work in establishing a native habitat outside our classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It's often said that as we grow older, we begin to get less curious. My students defy this. As the school year goes on, they get more curious as they make connections between concepts and start looking at the world in new ways.
My students are curious and creative problem solvers who make insightful observations as they engage with and learn from each other.
I teach at a Title I school with a diverse population of students who show me every day that, if given the chance, they will rise to the occasion.
My Project
This year, our class was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to plant a native habitat right outside our classroom door. Students researched and selected plants, sheet mulched the area, and planted over eighteen native plant species to help support and increase biodiversity on our campus.
Next year we have plans to double the size of our native habitat but in order to maintain and expand our project, we need gloves and kneeling pads to keep students safe as they perform tasks such as weeding, planting, and more.
By providing us with these materials, you're not just helping my students learn to love science but also helping my students learn the value of working as a team and giving back to their campus. Days that we garden together are truly special and allow students to see the positive impact they're having on our campus. Best of all, this impact will only grow as future classes expand on the work already done and our native habitat continues to evolve throughout the years.
