My Students
My students are kindergarteners. They learn through play and exploration! Every morning they walk through the door looking forward to the special time we set aside to practice skills through hands-on activities. They love to build, explore, create, and interact with each other.
My students are hands-on learners.
They come to me with many different backgrounds - many lacking experiences that build social skills and positive attitudes toward school. Many times, my classroom is the first place they experience being part of a community.
My Project
These picture books will promote the development of social skills and social-emotional health in my students. Titles such as Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon and Do Unto Otters will be the perfect springboard for discussions with my kindergarteners about managing emotions, establishing positive relationships, being responsible, and developing empathy.
Often we think of kindergarten as a crucial time for developing reading, writing, and math skills, but research shows that investing in the social-emotional development of children at this age could prove to be the biggest key to academic success.
According to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, children from low-income families are less likely to enter kindergarten with such skills.
