Growing a Greener Future with Students, Seeds, and You!
My students need potting soil, compost, and seeds so we can grow food in our urban school.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Wolf's classroom raised $606

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students want what we all do--a safe home, good friends, good health, opportunities to learn and grow, and the chance to make a difference in the world. They come to me from over twenty countries, speaking a dozen languages. New to the country, the culture, and rigors of high school, it's essential to set the tone that not only are they welcome, but that their prior experiences, education, and culture are viewed as an asset.
Everyone eats, and my students bring a wealth of diverse experiences about cuisine and growing food.
I want to engage them in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through their interests in food and cultures. We'll use STEM to grow a greener future for everyone!
My Project
Our upcoming project asks the question, "How do we sustainably grow food to feed the world?" Our urban school represents the difficulty faced by cities in general - where do we find the space to grow what we need? To truly "Eat Local, Think Global" I want my students to experiment with different ways of growing food, considering the environmental impacts and economic costs of the methods they will test. Before we start testing hydroponics and other fancy methods we need to first grow seeds in soil.
These bags of soil and compost will literally be the foundation for our project.
Students will experiment with different combinations of soil and compost, light, seed types, and planting densities to learn from experimentation what will grow best, and what won't. Please help us sow the seeds for a sustainable future and donate to our project today!
I want their interests in food and cultures to fuel their excitement to learn the Science, Engineering, and simple Technology and Math (in other words, STEM) that can grow a greener future for everyone.
