My Project

These books will be the first added to our community library and organized by series so students can easily access them. These books will not only reach my classroom but my fellow teacher's classroom as well. They will give students opportunities to imagine, connect, and grow as learners. Students have access to the library throughout the school day and will have ample amounts of time to read them during our reading block and beyond.

"In order to attract and hold children’s interests, classroom libraries must be stocked with many good books.

According to the American Library Association, classroom libraries should include about 300 titles, single and multiple copies, as part of a permanent collection, with supplements from a well-stocked school library." (Hack, Hepler, & Hickman, 1993).

Building up the community library will help reach more students through interest and variety; in turn, this would stoke their love of reading. The love of reading will branch off into so many more opportunities for these students—both socio-economically challenged and not.
