My students need picture books to help them understand a growth mindset, that it is ok to make mistakes, and to help them build a classroom community.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a classroom of 24 students who are curious and inquisitive learners. Many of them can be labeled as a minority, many require special education services, many who can be labeled as English Language Learners, many who qualify for free or reduced lunch, and many who go to homes that have very few to no school supplies to support their learning journey. Yet these labels do not define them or let you truly understand who my students are. These students come to school excited for learning and have homes who want them to succeed. They value their education and get as much support as possible from home to ensure their success. These students emphasize day in and day out why I love to teach so much and work so hard to make sure they succeed to reach all of their goals in life.
My Project
A growth mindset helps students develop an understanding that intelligence can be developed, we're not just 'born with it.' It also fosters the idea that making mistakes is ok, and we can learn from these set backs. Students should be persistent, exemplify perseverance, and support all students on their learning paths. Working with a diverse population of students, injecting a theme of the 'growth mindset' in my classroom will help my students build confidence to succeed, understand that it's ok to try something hard, and support each other.
These texts will be used to launch a 'growth mindset' in all students and start them on the right track for success.
As a part of our classroom community building, we will zoom in on historical figures as well as fictional figures who prove that it's ok to make mistakes, how we can learn from them and use feedback constructively, how we can support others in our community, and how we can truly succeed!
