My Students

Listening to books is an essential part of students' literacy curriculum! Please help me provide opportunities for my students to hear audio books to promote their interest and learning in kindergarten!

I have the sweetest group of kindergartners, and they love it when I read stories to them.

I wish I could read to them all day! Since I do have other responsibilities to teach, I know they would appreciate having a well-stocked listening center that gives them the opportunity to listen to stories everyday.

My Project

Having the resources for a listening center will enhance my literacy curriculum throughout the year. I rely heavily on small group learning centers, where I can work individually with students on a rotating basis. Since I do not have any teaching assistants in my room, I must create other centers where children are able to work independently. A listening center is the best independent center! Children can manage the CD players, and their attention is captivated for the entire length of the book. Throughout the kindergarten year, listening to audio books helps students' fluency and introduces them to new vocabulary. As the year progresses, I can enhance the listening center by providing comprehension questions to help students increase their understanding of books and stories.

A child needs to be read to everyday.

However, I understand families are busy and life can sometimes get in the way of these daily stories. As their teacher, I know a listening center will help me provide this essential part of my students' development. This opportunity will help form a love of reading that will influence them for the rest of their lives. Please help me make this positive impact on my students!
