This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My classroom is centered in democratic science pedagogy, where students are encouraged to collaborate with one another to co-construct their own STEM knowledge. Partner and group work is essential in my classroom because it provides students with autonomy to work through challenging tasks with one another as each student brings different skills to the table.
I am committed to creating experiences for my students where they get to develop knowledge and skills through engaging projects set around challenges and problems they may face in the real world.
This upcoming year, I will be teaching three sections of full-inclusion STEM courses and therefore will be working with many students with IEPs and specific learning needs. I feel that it is super important to cater content to individual student needs and interests, and the PBL framework allows me to do just that. In order to enact this framework into my classroom, I will need project supplies such as sharpies, poster paper, construction paper, markers, and chalk to bring out students' creativity and engagement.
As a new educator teaching in the Los Angeles area, I am still in the process of expanding the resources I can offer to my students. With your generous support, I will be a step closer in helping my students feel more connected with STEM.
