Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Help me give my students protein bars, fidgets and sensory toys for anxiety, and a chair to sit in that is new, clean, and from this century!
We are gifted, creative, diverse, urban, low income, high need high school students working on an Associate's degree while getting our high school diploma!
Empower us with some new chairs, some protein bars and some fidget toys so that we can feel good about our learning environment, get some critical nutrition, and cool our anxiousness!
We want to feel like we are in college because we are! But our school building is a classic; it is 109 years old, and chairs are from the 1950s and covered in bubble gum and the sludge of ages. Thanks to recent donations we do have brand new work tables!
Our school is based in the lowest income zip code in Massachusetts, and our students have showed up and worked extremely hard, even though many are incredibly stressed in their personal lives. Our students are experiencing personal loss, single parent homes, foster care, long hours at jobs outside of school hours, chronic food and housing instability, and siblings with special needs and chronic illnesses. The fidgets will help us with our social anxiety - thank you! The protein is to supplement our nutritional deficits - we deeply appreciate it!
In the face of these complex stressors, we have consistently shown up, investing in ourselves and in our community with our hard work and contributions to our community of learning.
We will be so very appreciative if our seating could be from this century! We need the grounding of a few well placed calories and a fidget here and there for a rough day. Thank you in advance for supporting our growth and dignified work space!!!
