This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students come from low-income situations—some are homeless, some are foster children, some work to support their families while going to school, and many come from single-parent homes. 75.3% of students at my school qualify to receive free lunch through the National School Lunch program.

An incredible group of students, their courage to face their lives is quite inspiring, and keeps me thinking every waking minute about how I can help them overcome their educational and life challenges.

My Project

Our classroom has been gifted via Donors Choose (thank you!) with 5 iPad minis to use to do interactive, self-adjusting SAT and ACT practice exercises. Before I allow students to use them, I must put covers on them so they don't break. I also need a power strip to charge them at night!

My students need to get to work right away as the tests are in May, June and July!

These iPad minis will allow my students to access sites like Khan Academy, Prepfactory, No Red Ink, Edcite and Common Lit—all excellent sites for practice and assessment.

I work with underserved students, most of whose lives are filled with incredible struggle. It is so important that they pass their SATs and ACTs—it not only allows them to graduate, enabling them to get a better job, but it also gives them hope that they might attain acceptance to a college.
