This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Early childhood classrooms are always high energy and my students are constantly on the move. They never seem to get enough time engaging in gross motor play. So why not bring the gym to the classroom?
My students are absolutely amazing.
This year five of my eight students are returning and I have three new students. Since they are early learners (three and four years old) it is only natural that they are high energy. The students in my classroom are brilliant, despite learning atypically. The one constant in a classroom of atypical learners is that they need a wide variety of learning experiences to increase growth in all developmental domains. Many are visual and kinesthetic learners.
My Project
The resources I am requesting will make it possible to provide my students with gross motor time every day of the week. Usually we are only scheduled to attend gym once per week - that is not enough for three and four year old students. When the weather is good, we are able to play outside a few times a week, but often we cannot go out because of bad weather - especially during the winter months. The resources I am requesting will make it possible to create an academic obstacle course right in my classroom. The basketball hoop and balls will help in increasing eye-hand coordination as well as catching and throwing skills. The river set will increase balance and coordination and the trampoline will help with jumping skills.
The resources I am requesting will help my students increase gross motor skills such as jumping, catching and balance.
Many of my students receive physical therapy services and the items I am requesting will go a long way in working on those skills in the classroom. Your donation will help increase skills in an important developmental domain for all early learners.
