This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Children need more music in their lives!!! I learned to play the guitar about five years ago and I love teaching my students the songs I grew up with. Can you believe some of my third grade students had never heard "I've Been Working on the Railroad," "This Land Is Your Land," or "Skip to My Lou" before I taught them??? I'm currently in my third year of teaching and I have to admit, I was much better about including a weekly song circle my first year. Over the years, lugging my guitar back and forth from home to school has become a little cumbersome. If only I could have a guitar for my classroom!!! It would guarantee my weekly song circle and really motivate me to keep teaching children the songs of past generations. This guitar would benefit classrooms full of students for years to come. It would also be used at school assemblies and for parent presentations. My students come from families who can't afford to enroll their students in music classes. My school has a limited music program. In third grade, a child will receive 40 minutes of music a week. In fourth and fifth grade, he/she may not have it at all. We've all heard the research about music enhancing students' minds. I, for one, believe it and I would love to continue being a contributing factor. Please consider helping me make this desire a more convenient reality!
