Groovin' at Our School Assembly

My Students

I am fortunate to be part of a school that strives for excellence. We meet students' needs in rigorous teaching strategies and expect only the best from our students.

My school is proud to be a "Leader in Me" school that works on taking author Steven Covey's 7 Habits, making them age-appropriate and working them into our school campus, so that students begin to see their campus as a way to show leadership.

The "Leader in Me" is not a curriculum, but rather a way of doing life on the school campus through awareness of how we learn and grow, and how we speak and treat one another.

Students learning the habit of solving conflicts, then becoming conflict managers is just one way the Leader in Me program looks on our campus. Students take the 7 Habits that are taught to them and begin to think of ways they can take ownership of their campus through leadership. Whether it's a 5th grader helping a 1st grader to read, students setting goals and overcoming academic obstacles, or students seeing a need to clean their campus, are all ways that the 7 Habits teach students to lead.

My Project

Each month at our school assembly, we have a grade level team that performs or demonstrates one of our schools' 7 Habits. Our 3rd grade level team has the habit of "Sharpening the Saw", which encourages students to think about making choices that promote a healthy person, both physically and emotionally. We have chosen to do a dance performance to the song, ABC! It's Easy as 1-2-3, changing the lyrics to include word promoting the idea of "Sharpening the Saw".

We are requesting inflatable microphones and guitars, enough for each student in 3rd grade to either hold a guitar or a microphone as we perform.

Also, we are requesting enough toy sunglasses for each student in 3rd grade to wear one as perform.

The envision all students watching to thoroughly enjoy watching and then standing up and joining us as we perform. Good times will be had by all in our school body, including the teachers!
