it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My middle school students, many of whom need support with math and making healthy choices, would greatly benefit from real-world, hands-on learning opportunities tied to meaningful cultural celebrations. As part of our Unity Fest, which will highlight global traditions, the Lunar New Year will serve as a focal point for showcasing the importance of food in bringing people together.
This grain grinder will allow students to prepare fresh, whole-grain flour to make traditional Lunar New Year dishes like steamed buns and dumplings, connecting healthy eating habits with cultural appreciation.
While grinding wheat and preparing recipes, my students will apply 6th-grade math concepts such as ratios, proportions, and measurements, showing them how math is used in everyday life. This project will help my students improve their math skills, make healthier food choices, and gain a deeper appreciation for the cultural traditions of the Lunar New Year and beyond.
