This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Physical Education students have an intrinsic motivation to learn and become better individuals. With the focus of education being with the core subjects of English, Math, Reading, and Science, resource subjects like Physical Education, Music, and Art are sometimes left behind and funds are hard to find.
My students come to work and get better every time they step into the gym.
They want to learn about different sports and physical activities and I want to be able to teach them different activities from around the world they can use in their lifetime. The ultimate goal of my class is for students to learn activities that they can use to be physically active for a lifetime.
My Project
Football is one of the greatest games ever created. I played football in elementary, middle, high school, and college. I learned a lot from the game and made connections that will last a long time. I want to be able to give my student-athletes these same experiences and opportunities. Extra-Curricular activities like flag football will give my students an avenue after-school and keep them focused on their academics.
After-school and extra-curricular activities are being cut throughout America and especially in low socio-economic neighborhoods.
Almost 97% of the students at my school are at or below the poverty line, so having athletic fees for each student is difficult to accumulate. These footballs and scrimmage vests will go a long way in making practice more effective and games more enjoyable. Every former athlete and coach knows that perfect practice makes perfect gameplay. I want my students to be able to do both and these materials will help assist this goal.
