This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
At our Green Team meetings, our students collaborate about a green school goal they want to help our school achieve like saving energy, composting, making a garden, or recycling.
My Green School Team is made up of 4th-6th grade students that meet after school to help our school receive Michigan Green School status each year.
Students all qualify for free breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Life is not always easy for the students on my Green Team, but they come to school with a smile on their faces each and every day and a thirst for learning. They leave each day feeling proud of what they've accomplished. My school strives to reach the needs of all of our students and prepare them academically, socially, and emotionally for their futures.
My students need 20 Super Solar Race Cars to participate in a solar race car night for one of their Michigan Green School goals. My Green School students love to build and create things. The mini solar racers would be perfect to help them learn about an alternative form of energy, as well as using engineering skills to build a car. This will be an after school event for our Green Team members, as well as other interested students. Not only will this help our students learn about an alternative form of energy, it is one of our goals to help our school reach Michigan Green School status for the 2015-2016 school year.
Our students are the future.
They need to learn about alternative energies because one day we will run out of oil and life could become hard if they don't have an understanding of it. Their efforts in making our Elementary a Michigan Green School carry over into their everyday lives and will make a difference to our planet. The solar mini racers are an exciting way to achieve this goal.
