Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a seventh grade math teacher in a low-income school district currently in state receivership. Our school has made amazing growth in the past five years, and the students continue to strive for the best. The seventh graders are hardworking students and deserve to have every opportunity offered to them regardless of their hometown.
My students overcome obstacles every day to be the best students they can be.
They attend an extended school day, participate in intramural sports and after-school activities, and love their families and community.
My Project
At my school I lead a group of students who are members of the Green Team. The purpose of this team is for students to promote environmentally friendly practices in the school and the neighborhood such as recycling, food rescue and gardening.
The students on the Green Team are planning a neighborhood clean up this Spring and need tools and materials such as rakes, gloves, lawn bags, trash bags and gardening tools.
This project would provide these items and help the Green Team make our school neighborhood a beautiful place! Many of these items can also be be used for future Green Team clean ups!
