Over the past year and a half of learning remotely, students have been resilient in their ability to sit in front of a computer for 6+ hours a day staying engaged in their learning. It has been challenging and frustrating at times, needing hotspots to help with internet connectivity and even then, having internet that would still not work efficiently. Students were constantly apologizing for getting kicked out of zoom meeting multiple times in a class or the lagging that occurred with connectivity making it difficult to hear, speak and communicate efficiently.
Even through all of this, students continued to persevere no matter what obstacles were thrown at them.
Before Covid, for many students the best part of the day was getting to come to school, a place where they felt a sense of community, pride and caring. I am hopeful that this year students will be back in a brick and mortar environment where they will get to interact and socialize with friends and peers. Now more than ever they need the social interaction among educators, peers and friends.
My Project
Students have been sitting in front of computers for the past year and a half, hiding behind their screens! They have been missing out on collaborating and socializing with peers and educators in the classroom. I am hoping that the Keva wood structures will be a great addition to our materials to help students collaborate, design, create and build bridges, structures and other creative projects during our Engineering unit in STEM!
Green screens, once a staple of any special effects film studio, are now becoming an exciting and realistic part of our STEM classroom!
Students will have the opportunity to see how a green screen works and apply their knowledge, by creating a project explaining the process of Photosynthesis using the green screen!
