My students need explorations to discover renewable alternative energy sources like MudWatt Fuel Cells, Snap Circuits Alternative Energy, K'Nex Wind and Water Set, and a Makey Makey Invention Kit.
We dream of a world where all children live, laugh, and breathe free. My students are filled with the grit of inventors, creators, engineers, and artists waiting to bring this to life. They just need the opportunity to show how their little dreams can impact the future of our planet.
Our student population is extremely diverse.
Over 40 languages and dialects are spoken in the homes of our students. Many are the first generation in their families born in the United States. They are creative, eager, and crave complexity on a constant basis. They need to stretch their analytical skills and encounter rich and authentic challenges. They need curriculum that is relevant to their lives so that they are pushed to grapple with meaningful issues. Exercises in teamwork and problem-solving offer new ways by which they can collaborate with others in spite of their differences. Pairing science, technology, and conservation with critical thinking gives them a way to connect and be understood. They yearn to encounter an academic structure that satisfies their appetite for depth and breadth in learning. Their needs are as diverse as their different home structures, cultural backgrounds, and learning styles.
My Project
The creativity and innovation of our youth is our most under utilized resource. They are passionate and inquisitive, and it is their innovation that will solve the problems that plague our planet. Allowing children to explore, experiment, and think deeply about how to make an impact on our environment in a positive way is critical for the sustainability of all humankind.
I would like to give my students the opportunity to be environmental innovators.
By allowing them to build real-world solutions for alternative energy sources, they will be ignited with a passion to make changes to their global community. I want them to understand how fossil fuels are impacting their world and unearth ways to remedy the issue. The MudWatt Fuel Cell Set allows for hands-on creation of a genuine alternative energy source. The K'Nex Wind and Water Set and Snap Circuits Green Energy kit will allow my students to analyze real problems and be innovators in how to create solutions involving renewable energy sources. Using the Makey Makey kit will open a world of possibilities as the children discover that with a little ingenuity the most common objects can provide energy that will lessen their carbon footprint. They will question, explore, create, and collaborate as they discover ways in which we can protect our environment and then they will work with a kindergarten class to pass on their new discoveries. We are changing our world one brainstorm at a time.
