My students are amazingly inquisitive and ready to learn! Our school is a neighborhood school in a low socioeconomic area, right in the heart of Orlando, Florida. Many our my students are second language learners, whose parents have limited English proficiency. But that does not stop our students from being highly motivated, with an intense desire to read and learn. I have been teaching at this school for well over a decade and honestly could not imagine being anywhere else!
To see the resilience in these children’s eyes, day after day, perpetually motivates me to do everything I can to inspire them to be great.
I want every child that walks into our school to fully understand that with continued hard work and determination their opportunities for success are endless!
These books will allow my students to engage with exciting literature in new and fantastic ways! I am starting a book club for students (in grades 3 through 5) where they will get to read and interact with entertaining literature. My goal is to help foster a love of reading and collaborating with friends about their shared literacy experiences.
An example of an activity we would do after reading specific sections of the book, involves working with partners to act out scenes, create visual representations, or add additional characters, scenarios, and/or plot twists to the story.
Now, doesn't that sound super fun?
Students will also have an opportunity to engage with other students outside of their traditional classroom setting, where they can build social skills and form new friendships.
