Our students really want to read! The only challenge they have is finding the "right fit" for their books.
Our students are a wonderful bunch!
They work on various strategies to build their stamina. Each day we add minutes to their independent reading time and you should see their faces light up when they realize they've passed another benchmark! We have to work hard at keeping them going with interesting books.
My Project
Having a better variety of books to hold their interest will help them read independently for a longer time. Our class is filled with a big assortment of readers. We really need more lower level books to meet the needs of our beginning readers. If they are interested, they will read.
Working with students who are excited about what they are reading is a wonderful thing.
Right now we are struggling to keep them interested because we have very few "just right" books.
